In the second last week of June, I attended ACM International Conference on Interactive Media Experiences (IMX 2022) held at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. IMX is a great community of people working on interactive media. There is a very high percentage of the audience that is working on the eXtended Reality(XR) in digital arts, education and telepresence and the use of immersive technology in theatres.

ACM IMX 2022

Here I presented a paper “Learning Sustainable Locust Control Methods in Virtual Reality” which was part of GameJam conducted by the Immersive Learning Research Network.

Locust swarm is the biggest food security issue in many countries of Asia and Africa. Locust is an insect that attaches to crops in the form of large groups having the capacity of eating whole crops within a few hours.  There are many different strategies adopted in the world including pesticides, the use of loud drummers, and the duck army in china. On the other hand, Locusts are a good source of protein which is useful for humans and animals.  Using a kinesthetic learning approach with real-time hand interaction of oculus quest and adding gamification elements, this study aims to teach profitable and sustainable methods of dealing with locust swarms.

This study was awarded as BEST VR/AR Application by the Immersive Learning Research Network.
